My little boy who is 4 still wees sitting on the loo....is this normal.

When we toilet trained our little boy he always went sitting down on the loo, its continued, he is now 4, on a visit to ds's nursery I noticed all the other little boys his age go standing up. Whats the norm and if its standing up tips on a successful aim and dry clothes please!

he'll probably start weeing standing up of his own accord when he sees other boys doing it

i've known several adult men who wee sitting down

it doesn't really matter!

what does he do if your outside with no loo? the reason i ask is we too have a 4 year old who is only just standing up. we took his lead when he was outside, you have to help him hold his willy to aim and talk him through it - aim high, shake etc! lots of praise, get your partner to take him to the loo when he goes aswell. my ds1 is quite short which is a hindrance with adult loo so we have made a little step for him. also (without step) to stop splashing get him to place his willy over the rim so it touches. good luck

Can't accurately remember but think it was around 4 that ds did switch. Before then he would go standing up outside if we were out of reach of a toilet though - liked watering the flowers!!. He switched mainly to copy the others at school. I think the age they choose to do it depends partly on their height and how comfy it is to stand. Perhaps putting "targets" down the loo first would help.

DS1 (5) still switches between sitting and standing. It doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother him.

trust me, once he starts standing you'll be begging him to sit again, their aim is dreadful and my ds aged 10 is still awful!

ds is also 4 and mostly sits down, but does stand sometimes. I remember somebody saying it is a good idea to put a ping pong ball in the loo, and get them to aim for it...never tried it though!

I wouldn't worry pepsi. At least he goes to the toilet. I've have two sets of dirty pants from school this week and I took him out today and he dirtied them. He's five.

DS is 4.5 and has only just started to stand up in the last couple of weeks, so it sounds normal to me!!

my ds wees sitting down(is only 3 1/2 tho) but when we are out he wees standing up, drains, flowers etc!!

on a similar subject-how the hell do you get them to hold their own when they are standing up? (am assuming its not just me who has to do this?!)

good for him! I don't see why all men can't do that - it'd save nasty cleaning jobs after drunken nights out anyway.

My son (6) still sits at home most of the time, but goes standing up at school. I didn't care what he does really, think it was seeing the other boys and his Dad standing and then getting tall enough to manage that did it.

But when he stands, tell him not to press his penis down like he does when he sits. That'll help the clothes, at least. Not sure what helps the aim. My eldest is pretty good, but I know it's dumb luck.

My wonderful DH only stands to wee when in the loo at a pub or when out on the golf course (he is german). I think I read before that it is a cultural thing - there are several european countries where the normal thing for men is to wee sitting down. I know that I will be teaching my DS that to wee sitting down is thoughtful and considerate and he need only stand to pee when no toilet seat is available .

Having previously only had a girl, I canvassed boy-owning friends on just this topic when planning to train ds. Opinions on little boys standing up to wee varied from "of course" to "Christ, no!"

I reckon you takes your choice. If he's being teased he'll fit in pretty quick. For the record, my ds (4.5) sits down, but then our loo seat won't stay up by itself...
