Can someone explain to me why my son is acting like 2 different people?!

DS has done his usual, happy as Larry all day, great mood yesterday, we've been shopping, he's played some DS, chilled out in his room for a bit.
Goes upstairs for a bath, comes down in the foulest of moods, crying, snapping, whiney, pacing the room, restless etc.

This happens a couple of times a week, he'll be fine then suddenly not. He acknowledges it but doesn't know why or what reason.
It's exhausting and draining waiting to see 'which' DS he'll be one hour to the next.

Any insight?

How old is he?

We need to know how old he is...

It could probably just be pre teen moods or my other thought was is he using any social media when he's upstairs, games with an online element? Could he be being bullied?

Probably just moods but maybe worth asking him when he's in a pleasant mood who he speaks to online and if thu are friends and what to do if he's feeling bullies etc.

Is he in a bad mood when he's hungry? My son is really lovely but if he's hungry he gets in a kind of desperate mood, where everything's wrong. Once he's eaten, he's fine.

If that isn't the reason, could you ask him to keep a diary? It would be good for him to pour it all out in there.

No social media allowed, we have really strict parental controls on the Internet. It's probably hormones or similar.

What about food, OP? Is he hungry at the time? Or at any rate is he worse when it's been a long time since he's eaten?

He eats a lot and fairly frequently, he has a medically prescribed diet so I don't think it's that.

Oh okay. It's just I noticed it with my son, who has a very even mood most of the time. It was worse when he was starting to grow, so start of secondary school. Try giving him something to eat and see whether it's that, otherwise he's a run-of-the-mill moody bugger!

I thought of hunger too. When my blood sugar drops my head spins and I get very moody. I have to eat little and often.

I think boys have such massive growth spurts and they just don't know what to do with themselves. Try measuring him now and doing it again at Christmas - I bet there'll be a huge difference.

He's growing alright, I was doing his physio the other day and realised the chubby cheeked little boy that used to lay across my knee quite comfortably suddenly takes up the whole sofa and he's slim with cheekbones!

Him and DS2 were page boys at a wedding on Saturday, I was sent a photo of the 2 of them and I spent the day feeling quite emotional, both proud of them, looking so handsome and sad that they looked so grown up in their suits.

6 year holiday would probably suffice, TBH.
