How old was your lo/should your lo be before the sides of cotbeds are taken off?

DD1 is 25 months and still in her cotbed. Just wondering how old they are when you convert to a bed?

Dd1 has a stairgate on her doorway - so she won't be able to wander and her bedroom is safe. Does it just mean she won't stay in bed?

Grateful for your views.

Mine were both about 2. Depends on the child - some of them like the 'safe' feeling - others try to climb out, which is terribly dangerous. One of my friend's dughters fell head first and broke her arm climbing out of her cot when she was 16 months
If she seems happy I'd just leave her as she is.

DD went into a toddler bed at 18 months. She never really got on with her cot, and loved her "big girl's bed". Wasn't realy a problem.

ive just taken dd2's sides off hers, shes 24 mths

she now has a bedguard

dd1 was only 20 mths, but we needed the cot for dd2!

dd1 then went into a proper single bed with a bedguard no probs

they both stayed in bed - but i think thats cos they had bedguards

hth

Gosh - dd1(3.3) is now in a normal bed but with one of those "bed-side" things. Maybe I am being over protective?

Hi Hotmama!! Well DS1 was in a bed at 18mths, DD went into a bed just after her 2nd birthday, and DS2 went into a bed at 20mths.

I've never had any problem with them wandering, in fact the only one who does sometimes get up is DS2, but I have the baby monitor on so I can hear him, and the door is shut. I actually found that he sleeps alot better since the sides of his cot came off. I've always gone on the assumption that put them into a bed before they try to climb out of the cot then they won't try to get out of bed IYSWIM!!

As long as the starigate is on the door, give it a try!

god reading this my dd was early i took cotbed sides off at 13 months and at 18 months she was in single bed thought id do it before she would understand lets wind mummy and daddy up she has stair gate on bedroom door if she gets up i ignore her and she takes herself back to bed i know when she really needs me if she does i just give her a cuddle on her bed and she lays back down till morning

My twin DDs were quite young when we took the sides off. I went in one morning when they were about 15 months to find them both asleep in one cot , so thought it was safer to take the sides off.
