Diarrhoea & teething- how long will it last

my 5 m/o normally only poos once a week (breastfed and never seems constipated), however over the past couple of days he has developed diarrhoea (green & smelly, about 4 times a day). I took him to the doctor yesterday, as he has a barking cough and when I mentioned the diarrhoea the doc immediately put it down to teething. If it is teething, how long can I expect the runny poos to last for?
I can't see any teeth coming through (this would be his first), however he is very dribbly and very keen to chew on everything.

It could be teething poo, but doesn't sound like it. It could be diarhhea from an upset stomach, or it could be due to mucus production in his system from having a cold.

give him a few drops of grapefuit seed extract in 4 oz of water. this usually helps clear up diarrhoea.

My ds had a dreadful tummy bug (called Rota virus) when he was 4 months old. I'm not saying it's that, but my doc said green poo was because the food is going straight through so is bringing stomach bile with it. I had to starve him and give him Dioralyte, but I understand breastfed babies can just carry on having breastmilk as it will adapt to their needs. My ds also has runny tummy when he's teething (he's 14 months now), but it's never the green stuff. Hope that helps.
