Travelling with a 20month old

Any suggestions from all you seasoned travellers on how to keep a 20month old boy happy (or at least not crying!) on a 5hr flight (he's got his own seat - thank god - bought courtesy of the in laws!). Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the little portable tape recorders for children you can buy? Mine quite likes hers on and will sit for a little bit listening to her favourite nursery rhyme tape, etc. Also, a mountain of books will pull flaps, etc. How about a few packs of the raisins that come in their own box (Organix, I think), they seem to quite like un-doing the box and picking them out one by one. A little art set of pens and crayons and a little pad he can open up and scribble on? If he likes Teletubbies you can buy a Teletubbies magazine now and mine loves leafing through this whenever I remember to buy it!

Threading beads (to lose everywhere), portable etch a sketch, little figures to take in and out of boxes, peel on and off sticker book thing. Lots of trips to the lou.

Hello, the only advice I can offer from experience on a shorter flight is to have at the ready a drink for take off / landing (helps with the cabin pressure), as many fave books / toys as you can load into your hanbaggage to be produced at intervals. Also a friend of mine swears by her "Walkman", kept her little 18 month entertained all the way to the USA...

Good Luck
