Child Protection Plan

Hi there. We have just had a terrible experience with social services regarding the above. I wondered if anybody else has had an experience with such an enforcement? It's very stressful and extremely concerning.

What would you like to know?

You need to do everything they ask of you. This should be outlined on your plan.

I am relocating my Y4 daughter. Currently looking at St Hilda's in Harpenden or Alban City School. Would love to hear of any experiences at either school.

Hi Mamabear. I've spoken to lots of women who have experienced opressive practice by agencies. I have also worked I CP advocacy and seen some bizzare situations where interventions should have been withdrawn, yet worked with families where no interventions were in place yet childre at high risk. All very worrying. I personally had the experience of intervention after reporting and seeking support from abuse my child disclosed. It was extremely traumatic experience and has left me very shaken.

It might be difficult to help without you disclosing more information ( and I would suggest that it's not prudent to share any more publicly). I've been involved in the CP process ( although I'm not a social worker) and although there have been decisions made that I have not agreed with, have always felt that the sw's have proceeded with the best interests of the child in mind. It is very difficult when you are sat on the opposite side of the fence trying to make a judgement when it is clearly in the interests for some parents to conceal the truth about what is happening in a family ( and the child is unwilling or unable to talk to you about it). Decisions about placing a child on a CP plan are often made with the input of police, health and education rather than 1 rogue social worker with a grudge.

Ps. Absolutely no parent ever sat down and said " yeah I failed to protect my child" " yeah I hit them" " yeah I let my boyfriend rape them" EVER! So to the PP I'm not surprised you've heard tails of oppressive CP agencies - It's easy to say that.

Actually spirited there are ways that agencies and professionals can work without being oppressive. It is a core part of social work training. Unfortunately most social work is now so intensively beauracratised that this skill can be lost in practice. Some parents so recognised and acknowledge where they have failed to protect or harm their children. The dynamic of power between social worker and citizen is big. There are rights and articles that are supposed to ensure that interventions are carried out safely and respectfully. Social Care does sometimes fail on delivery and for a parent who is already traumatised this can be secondary trauma and cause further problems for the children involved.
