10 month old ds not crawling yet - any helpful ideas??

hi,
my 10 month old ds is still not crawling, and i am getting impatient with seeing how he is getting frustrated at not being able to move about. he can shuffle around on his tummy quite well, also get from sitting to his tummy, but seems to have problems in getting his bum up in to the air and coordinating his feet.
i have tried all sorts of little tricks like placing toys just out of his reach, putting him in a bouncer a lot to encourage movement (which he likes), and taking him to playgroups with lots of other babies out and about.
i know that there are plenty of late crawlers/walkers, but are there any other suggestions of how to help him along?? please let me know. thx.

Won't bore you with the 'you know he might not' crawl stuff then ... you know it's not a developmental stage, right?
DS crawled for a month at 15 months....I tried everything, nothing made a blind bit of difference...

Hi, I know this isn't the answer you'd like but I wouldn't bother. He's 10 months, he'll get there. And then you'll spend all your time trying to keep him in the same area. DS crawled for 2 weeks before walking at 12 monts - he just didn't seem very impressed with the idea of crawling. I know a child that didn't go anywhere until 18 months. I don't think you could do anything more than you are doing (and he'll probably appreciate that you're playing with him and paying him lots of attention more than he appreciates the movement...)

Kati,I honestly wouldn't worry.My ds never crawled or bum shuffled.It was frustrating but he preferred standing against a table etc and eventually went on to walking while being held with two hands ifswim.He walked on his own by 13m but By then I was like a stooped old witch from walking around holding his hands for months.

at the idea of encouraging crawling He'll quite clearly do it when he's ready, just enjoy this phase!

Don't encourage him! I am still happily wandering in and out of room as dd (91/2m) plays- safe in the knowledge that she can't crawl - ha ha ha. you know your life will become more difficult the better and faster he can move

Yeah, get a group of friends around for coffee and sit back having fun whilst they all go mad chasing their little ones.

hi all, thanks for all your thoughts! good to hear from you in similar positions. it just seems all the other babes we know are all over the place and that can be frustrating both for DS as well as for me - but you're right, i always get to drink my tea when all the other mums are also all over the place with their little ones ... so here's to lots of tea and coffee!

I understand the frustration (and possible niggly worries); my dd crawled at around 14 months IIRC, and at 16 months she's not walking. But all in good time ! I understand there are some toys which are like a ball with attractive playbits stuck on the outside but have some kind of motor inside so when the baby touches them, it rolls away a few feet IYSWIM. You could try those, but honestly, I wouldn't bother. Your ds will start crawling when he feels like it !
