7 month old - what is normal?

Hello, can anyone tell me what my 7 month old DS 'should' be doing in terms of language development please?

I know all babies develop differently, but my DS doesn't yet 'babble', in fact I couldn't say for certain that he has ever said 'baba' and the like, although he has mouthed it when tired.

He makes a lot of shrieking and clicking noises and is generally very happy and smiley.

I would also be very interested to hear about eye contact too please. He does make eye contact, but is generally more interested in looking around!

I would be very grateful to hear if this all sounds 'right'.

My DD didn't really start babbling until 10 months, she's just turned 11 months now and babbles incessantly with a good range of consonant and vowel sounds and varied pitches. She makes eye contact when it suits her, but she's a nosey being who would rather be 'at' things. So your DS sounds fine to me, if he's active he probably just has other priorities and will get round to it when he's ready.

Sounds normal to me. At 7 months my DD was just starting 'a-ba ba ba' noises but mostly oohs/aahs and other random breathy noises, shrieks etc.

She was good at eye contact if someone was talking and smiling to her but also just liked looking at the world a lot!

Phew! Thank you! It's so hard to know what he should be doing (and I've been watching too much Born Naughty!)

Also, in relation to responding to his name... He will look if I call, but not if he's doing something, presumably this too is 'normal'?

My LO walked before he was babbling much. He's now 2.3, and he he loves the sound of his own voice.Smile

Thank you that is very reassuring. No doubt in a few years I'll be complaining he won't shut up!
