18 month old speech

I'mwondering if my (just) 18 month old DDs speech is developing normally.

She has about 15 clear words a lot of which sound similar - mummy, daddy, Doggy, baby, minnie, teddy, peppa and a few others.

She had all these words by about 16 months and in the last 2 full months has only really said 3 or 4 new words - ball, Nana, go and keys/cheese (both said as geys!)
She also says "Daddy and Mummy!" as a sentence quite a lot.

She has fantastic understanding e.g. get me your ball/shoes/book, do you want a nap/snack/drink, put the sticker on mummy's nose/your nose, can touch body parts and point to about 30 pictures so I thought she might have gained more than 4 words in 2 months.

Also a big thing I've noticed is she doesn't show any interest in trying to copy words when we say them.

She has quite a severe lip tie I don't know if that makes a difference.

Does this all sound normal?

She sounds like she's doing really well to me. My ds2 didn't learn any new words between 15-18 months, and now at 20m his speech has exploded, he's been saying full sentences for about a month and he said practically nothing the month before. I think just because they're not saying/doing things, it doesn't mean they aren't learning and developing. I'm sure she'll surprise you in the next few weeks with how much she can say.

She sounds almost identical to my 18 month old to the extent that I wondered if id written the post in a sleep deprived haze! My MIL keeps making comments like 'oh don't worry, she'll talk properly soon' (apparently DH could say 'mummy can I have a drink please' at 14 months ) but I'm not worried. DD's comprehension is also fantastic but she only seems to attempt a new word if she knows she can say it without getting it wrong if you know what I mean?

Mine is 20 months and has TWO WORDS.

should I be worried? This sounds amazing to me!

Oh thanks everyone! I feel a bit embarrassed now I suffer with anxiety and it seems to be coming out around DD at the moment.

That made me laugh about writing the post yourself YouMake! Your MIL sounds like mine, apparently DH was fully potty trained by the time he turned 1

I've been doing the silly thing of comparing to my friends DD of 19.5 months who had no words at all a month ago and now copies words all the time although not clearly or unprompted, whereas my DD is like yours where she will learn one word clearly and on to the next.

Moral is must not compare!!!

DD had 2 or 3 words by 18 months. Within a couple more weeks she just seemed to get it & was picking up 4 or 5 a day, some days. By 20 or 21 months she was reading her first numbers from Mr Pusskins Numbers which will be etched onto my brain till I die, damned thing. She's average/bright now, aged 3.1. What I mean is, early/late start to talking doesn't necessarily mean anything.
