My 2 month old has stopped pooping!

Hi all. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place but I need a little reassurance from other mums. My 2 month old breast fed little boy hasn't pooed since Monday. I know that BF babies do start pooing less at this age but it happened so abruptly! Should I be concerned? Or is it perfectly normal?

Oh, have you given him anything unusual? Or have you eaten something different recently (that you don't usually eat?).

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 21/05/2015 13:47

When dcs were little the rule of thumb was "anything from 10 a day to 1 in 10 days" is normal. It is frightening, but nothing to worry about.

Thanks Pippi. Babies are so confusing! Hmm no two days are the same with him.

Nothing unusual that I can think of ppfruit. He seems to have started teething already though so maybe that's affecting him?

Our five month old didn't do a poo from Sunday morning till Wednesday morning... when he did three enormous ones! I would advise staying close to a changing table and change of clothes Wink

Bur seriously, if you are worried call your HV, although I'm sure everything is fine.

Pispcina · 21/05/2015 14:36

I seem to remember that BF babies have very little waste anyway so it doesn't matter too much.

If he seems unwell in any other way I would take him to be seen though. Just in case.

TollyBB · 21/05/2015 14:43

Thanks so much everyone. I'll give my HV a call.

I never thought I'd be so eager for a dirty nappy! Grin

My 3rd DC only poo'd once week. It was a major event in our house every time she did!! Grin

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2015 16:30

It could be the teething. All people and babies are different I suppose. As long as he's not in any pain when he eventually performs!

squigglehead · 21/05/2015 18:51

DS was exclusively breast fed and from 2 to 5 months only pooped once a week. It was fab. Then he started teething and it went back to up to twice a day. Enjoy it while it lasts Grin

Forgot to say that if he still has plenty of wet nappies there is even less to worry about. Smile

TollyBB · 22/05/2015 10:38

The eagle has landed! Never been so excited about a poo! Thanks again everyone for all your reassurance. I don't know what I'd do without Mumsnet! Smile

Yeah ds2 pooed every 10 days without fail at that age. His farts stank beforehand and when he went my god did he go. Needed new clothes and a full bath. It was handy though and he did it right through to weaning.
