Anyone else's 4 year old say this a lot? I have recently noticed dd is saying it quite a lot eg she's playing with her sister (2) and I am out of the room or they are out of sight but I can hear them. I hear squabbling so I look around the door - just to check they're not killing each other immediately dd says I didn't do anything. Now normally they just carry on playing so this makes me think she has done something, though I don't want to accuse her when I am unsure. It has happened twice or three times this week and each time I have been stumbled as what to say.

She's 4, she's probably thinkng that if something goes wrong, you are going to be blaming her and not her little sister, and that she'll be the one you expect to be more maturte because she's older. So she's getting in her comment first, to pre-empt the outcome.
Pick your fights, do you need to intervene or not and how much are you expecting of your older daughter?
