13 month old not standing

My dd is 13 months and hit all her early motor milestones early- she was rolling at 3 months, sitting unsupported by 5 months, crawling at 6, pulling to stand at 7 months, and cruising by 8months. However she is yet to stand alone. She will walk around with her push along walker or holding 2 hands but cries of I try to encourage her to stand or walk holding 1 hand. She falls down immediately if we try to encourage her to stand alone. Her balance seems to be extremely poor which is a little concerning as I understand she should be standing well before cruising. Has anyone had experience of a child whose development seemed to stall like this?

My friends lo was exactly the same and started to stand and walk at 18mo. She thought it was a confidence thing, as once her dd had the confidence she picked up walking very quickly. My own dd was only just cruising at that age, so I honestly don't think your dd is particularly behind. Perhaps speak to your Dr or HV if you don't see her start to get stronger on her feet over the next few weeks, but I don't think it sounds unusual.

Sounds like she's capable just doesn't see the benefit yet. That's how my daughter was. Maybe try some time away from anything she can use to help her-like in a park. She may not like having to crawl around so that might give her the push to stand on her own. Could also try putting away her push toy and anything else she spends a lot of time with. Also putting some new or favorite toys at standing height where she might be willing to take a couple steps towards them. Our daughter didn't stand much on her own until she started walking either. I think the momentum actually helped her stay upright.

Only one of my three dc could stand at 13 months. Perfectly normal imo Smile

Oh and none of mine could stand unsupported before cruising.

Thanks everyone. It's not that I think she's behind as such, just that there has been no real progress in her gross motor skills for months. In the baby groups little ones who were immobile at 10months are running at 13 months, whereas she is no stronger on her feet than she was 4-5 months ago. She's not talking either (other than throwing things and shouting Uh-oh!) so it's not that she's besn focussing on language either.
