Upper lip tie

I've just noticed my 12.5dd has an upper lip tie. She's had a gap between her front teeth ever since they came in at 6mo. Never noticed it before and we've had no problems with feeding. She was ebf till 6 mo and still has a bedtime feed now. I've done a mix of purées and blw for weaning and her weight gain has always been fine. She's a 91st centile baby for weight and 98 for height.

Just wondering if I need to worry about it? Read that a lot of them break naturally but they can cause speech/dental problems. Anyone got any advice?

I feel rubbish for not noticing it but she's is my pfb so nothing to compare to. Plus due to feeding having always been good I've never worried!

Hi, my ds has one, he also had a posterior tongue tie which caused lots of feeding problems. We had his TT snipped and feeding was greatly improved but wondered if to get his lip tie revised ti prevent any dental/speech problems, I decided to wait and see and hope that he breaks it himself.
Don't feel bad you never noticed, you dont need to worry about it but be careful with dental hygiene. If she doesn't break it as a toddler and you are concerned about the gap in the teeth you could gettit revised before the adult teeth come in.
If she has any speech delay it may be worth thinking about having it revised but I would consult speech and language therapy first.

My dd has it (22 months) and my dentist said just to see how it goes as most of the time it can just be cosmetic. She said she can sort it if it causes problems though

One of my friends is a speech therapist and she said she has only seen 3 cases of speech delay in 14 years due to lip tie. She said speech delay is often down to other factors. Yes the dental problems do concern me though. Just hoping it snaps by itself tbh but guess we'll just have to wait and see!
