Low upper body strength

DD is 11. She has really low upper body strength. When she goes bowling she is not really able to use even the lightest ball.

She does swim twice a week. She is a competent swimmer but cannot go particularly fast, I think because she has no real strength in her arms (and the swimming does not seem to be improving this).

She is generally quite slight (around 142 cm, 29kg), and is generally not great at sports but does join in everything (and is not the worst by any means).

Is there anything anyone can suggest to help her with this? It is starting to affect her, e.g. she has been invited to a bowling party and although she is very sociable is saying she does not want to go to this party because she is embarrassed that she cannot bowl.

Would it be worth having a check with your GP to make sure there's no physical reason why she's not able to lift things like this?

If there's no issue, then would she be interested in doing a sport - maybe a martial art like judo, a gymnastics class or horse riding (not cheap I know!)? Anything that would regularly strengthen her upper body.

Thanks. She does gymnastics regularly. She is fairly good at the floor stuff but can't really do the bars and has not really improved at it.
It is probably a good idea to get her checked out. I suspect for other reasons that she may be mildly dispraxic but not sure if there is a link with upper body strength.
