Do 2.5 year olds settle into nursery easily?

My DS started nursery at 10 months but didn't settle at all so we took him out. He now has a place to start nursery when he is 2.5 years old. Is he more likely to settle now?

I guess it really depends on the individual. But my DD was in nursery from 10-20mo. She settled ok there but had sporadic periods of being a bit unsettled and I was never sure she was 100% happy. Then took her out because we moved and I was on maternity leave. She went back to nursery (well more of a preschool setting really) at 2.5 and I was really worried about her settling because she's turned into a very shy retiring girl, very afraid of strangers, not v confident. She took to it like a duck to water - absolutely loves it and didn't need any of the settling in period with me staying with her etc. I've really noticed an increase in her confidence now, after having been attending for a term.

Definitely depends on the child.
My dd on her first day ran into the nursery and never looked back and has loved it forever.
They do get tired and grumpy after nursery usually.

My DD first went to nursery at 2.5. After 2 weeks she was still really upset going in & I could tell when I arrived to pick her up that she just wasn't enjoying it. When she started her pre-school place a year later, she cried only on the first day, & settled very well after that. She's always full of beans when I pick her up. What I would say is , if nursery is optional for you & your son, let him try it for a while and your instincts will tell you whether he's ready for it or not.

it was the free 15hr nursery so I think when she was not long 3 And still sometimes have to peel her away from nursery furniture At pick up.
I think at ten months your ds may have just have had seperation issues and was too young to start For him.
At his age now he might understand you will come back and once he realises how fun it is to be at nursery he might not have any problems.

My dd did have times when she was clingy but didnt affect nursery.

Karazeb, what happened in terms of payment when you had to pull out?

Ours expects 1 month notice to pull out and a deposit of £100, so I would lose out by about £700!
