9 year old behaviour

Would love to hear if anyone else is experiencing major issues with homework and learning timetables with their 9 year olds as well as still experiencing tantrums when effort is required. I feel as though we have tried everything but to no avail. All his teachers say he is a bright boy who is very capable, but he constantly says to us that he's "stupid". We have had him assessed twice for dyslexia (due to him being so averse to homework and reading) and both times were told he isn't - in fact on the second assessment they said he was a very capable student with a higher than average IQ. I get really upset when he refers to himself as stupid and tell him that no-one thinks he is - just can't work out if he really thinks this or if he just hates putting the work in. The problem is not just isolated to school work however, he also has random tantrums if he has become fixated on doing something or getting something and it doesn't happen - today we had a killer because we told him he couldn't wear his football studs while we are out in town rather than normal shoes- it went on for 2 hours. Am totally exhausted and so worried about him as he's a lovely boy but seems to be all over the place right now.

Have you considered whether he might have an Autism Spectrum Disorder like Asperger's Syndrome?
