This morning my dd said she is "bad" and when I said No, you're good and beautiful, she said "not beautiful"

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Ds, who is just 2, says he is "not" everything I say about him. Not nice, not lovely, etc etc, does not love or like mummy or daddy and even doesn't like the food he is eating at any given moment. I assume it is just a toddler thing.

my ds does this I think its similar to the saying 'no' al the time irrelevant of what the answer is. They are just being contrary.

I tell DS that he is gorgeous, and he says, 'I'm not gorgeous, I'm Adam'.

Hopefully she is just being a two year old then.

It just upset me a little when she said she is "bad". Dh and I are always careful never to say she is bad or naughty

My dd is 2.6 and says similar stuff. I'll say 'aren't you pretty?' and she says 'no, I'm a big girl' in a stroppy tone.

Sounds fairly normal - if a little upsetting to you. We never call our children 'silly' or 'naughty', we might say that something they did was silly or naughty, but never label them with such things. So it came as quite a shock when ds started refering to himself that way. I suppose he must have picked it up from other children (or even the staff) at school.

My DD has her own catch phrase - if I say what are you she reels off 'Cheeky Monkey (what I normally call her), Crazy Head (from Lilo and Stitch), Rat Bag, (what I called her a few times when she was stroppy)' until she added it to this little list of hers. Now she wont stop saying it.

Sure' shell grow out of it soon though
