Dangling legs in the car - can't be just us?

My DS1 is 4. He has the Recarro car seat and is, I suppose, tall for his age (born big and stayed solid). His legs ache on long car journeys as they just hang down. On last one they got "sore", I guess he got pins and needles so thought we'd be able to buy a foot rest. I can only see one or two on the market. Am I missing them or they called soemthign different?

How long a journey are we talking? I have two large and tall children and they never complained of this...I generally stop car once every hour and a half to two hours....much longer is too long really...just for a toilet trip and then back into the car and they've never had sore legs.

Is he ok physically in general? All his motor skills in place?

We have family 2 hours away so this is longest usually or if are on a longer trip we would stop. He's really well generally but I just think if I was sat with legs hanging, I can imagine it isn't comfortable. Thanks for replying.

Can you not just pile pillows in the footwell so he can put his feet on? I'm sure you can get inventive.

I would suspect it's just his way of saying he doesn't like the long journeys. We used to do 200+ mile trips to see family (and my df didn't agree with stopping his journey for anything less than a total emergency) and I don't remember ever finding it an issue, or for my siblings. In fact I remember finding it less comfortable once my feet could touch the floor.
My dc have never complained about it either, and we do 2hour+ journeys more often than once a month. They do complain about other things (like the music is too loud/too quiet; it's too hot/too cold (usually one sibling complaining each way); sibling has moved 1/100 mm onto their side; sibling has got something they want; sibling has breathed....) which is basically a way of saying "I'm bored of being stuck in this car".
