I'm my 14mo's personal pinching post

Over the last 2-3 weeks or so, 14mo DS has starting pinching me with alarming regularity.

I'm the only one he does this to; DH and grandparents are left alone and he doesn't seem to be attacking other children at nursery, or no complaints about it (as yet). He's also been biting just me-through clothes-but it flipping hurts. He is teething and never does this in anger so I'm hopeful that once the teething stops, the vampire act will too.

The pinching is really getting me down. He will look for any exposed skin (neck, arms, cheeks etc.) and will grab a chunk of skin d go to town. I'm quick to stop him-pulling his hand away, saying 'no' loudly and then stroking his face and saying 'no pinching mummy, touch gently') but it's not getting through.

He's not doing this when angry, or being removed from something, just whenever he's on my lap or being carried by me.

Any suggestions? He may be little, but he's got a strong pinch reflex!

I remember that phase. Just keep repeating, no gently, this is how you do it (a gentle stroke or a kiss in place of it).

If he's biting you because of teething, get him plenty of teething rings or even Sophie the teether. He can bite her as much as he wishes

If the gently approach isn't working I'd start putting him down on the floor whenever he does it. Dd has taken to biting me, and I say no and put her on the floor. She's not happy about it, but I pick her up almost straight W
away. I'm hoping it'll work!

It's not hard to see why he's doing it. He's getting a lovely reward of some face stroking straight afterwards. Stop doing this! The way to get any child to stop doing any biting/pinching behaviour is to immediately shout 'ouch!' as soon as they do it, then let them see that you look hurt and upset, and then immediately put them on the floor and ignore them for a while. You are also then teaching them what will happen in their lives when they do that to any person. They will be shouted at, they will upset that person, and then be ignored. Good life lessons to start early.
This worked for me and my friends kids but you must be consistent.
