2.8 year old won't walk anywhere

My dd used to love walking, she would walk everywhere and have a paddy if we ever put her in her pushchair.

Now for the past few month she wont walk more than one minute before demanding her pushchair or to be picked up.

Any ideas why this could be? Any tips on how to encourage her to walk. Currently awaiting a new part to fix the pushchair so it's a nightmare atm.

Get her a micro scooter, they love them.

Thanks I'll have a look at them, I'll try anything she used to be such a good walker, thought I had it sussed and could ditch the pushchair by 2 and a half. I was soooo wrong!

Mine at that age would walk anywhere if he had his toy pushchair with him. (They are little umbrella buggies you can get v cheaply at eg ELC.) He never put anything in the buggy, just loved to push it. They fold up small and light so were really worth taking oit and about!

(He then graduated to pushing the full-size buggy, the real one, even when he was too small to see over the top. I used to enjoy walking in the park with this apparently self-propelled buggy beside me!)

And then yes, went onto the microscooter.

Both mine did this. Very frustrating and tiring as mine would demand to be picked up!! I found the micro scooter worked wonders!! And when they became tired of scootering, i'd pull them on it!

Also, pushing a toy buggy worked too sometimes, my daughter loves taking her dolls out in it.

My DD was like this. The only way to get her around was to talk of some fascinating thing just around the corner and make it into a kind of treasure hunt.
Toy buggy was good sometimes as well, but often i'd end up having to carry it.
I used to envy the mums who had to put kids on reins! My DD would have had to be dragged with them, rather than restrained. You always hear how 'bolting' kids are difficult, but I genuinely thing 'draggers' are just as bad!

Ds1 could walk the mile and a bit into town at 18 months. Ds2 only started walking at 16 months and was still using his pushchair or being carried to nursery. He wouldn't walk the length of himself. Now ds2 walks everywhere and ds1 is always trying to scrounge lifts, takes the bus or gets a taxi. I must have worn him out!

Okay I'm definitely considering a micro scooter! Shes quite small, are they okay for small kids?

Have tried the toy buggy, i ended up carrying it after ten minutes and DP ended up carrying her. She wont walk to nursery or anything. Yet in the house she will run round the house and never sit still!

I really dont know whats changed

Really obvious suggestion (sorry) but are you sure her shoes are okay?

Microscooter mine had from around 18 months so definitely fine for here

Also I would be wary of ditching a pushciar unless you drive. It is brilliant for getting places quickly or for shopping...

My DS could barely see over the handles of the micro scooter when he started using his. So yes, she'll be fine. Takes a bit of practice though initially.

Oh, and DS was in a jogging type pushchair till he was 4. I used to do massive walks around town and the waterfront and there would have been no way he could have walked it, so don't worry about people judging you about that. I found the only people who seemed to judge a bit were the people who never walked more than about 50 yards with their DSs and went in the car everywhere!

Is there any change in her walking pattern? Swollen knees or anything? Complaining of pain? Has she had a virus or anything recently? That can have a knock on effect and cause joint pain.

Running bike: be prepared to have to race down the street after her at high speed & then carry it all over town when she's bored of that, too (having to chivvy her every step of the way).

Any chance you could borrow a pushchair until yours is repaired?

How about a toddler sling? We have a toddler Tula that goes in a rucksack everywhere with us and if DD (25 months) gets tired she goes in it for a bit. We used a sliing from birth and never had a buggy so we are very used to it but very easy to learn.

Pushchair parts are coming tommorow so thankfully no need .

No complaining of pain, walks fine, no viruses recently, she runs round home and at nursery absolutely fine.

Think her shoes are okay, it doesnt matter what shoes she wears she will still ask to be picked up. Though I will take a trip into clarks to grt her some new ones to see if that will help.

I was hoping its just a phase. Dp panders to her a lot and will always pick iher up but I can't because I have back issues I cant carry her long distances.
