what to do on a rainy day?

Hi all- wasnt sure where to put this so have plonked it here. My son is 14 mnths old and during the week we have a full and active social life- most mornings we are out at toddler groups etc.

My problem is when the weather is horrid. I have a fairly small house and no garden and he just seems a bit stir crazy.

I sit and play with his toys etc but he soon gets bored. He isnt really interested in drawing/painitng etc (should he be??)The only thing that holds his attention for a long time is the teletubbies so on a rainy day...what do you do with your kids?? Inspiration needed!!

Glad you started this one - we have the same one. Keep thinking this time next year will be easier as DS will be older (he is 16mths) and more able to do stuff like cooking, sticking etc but at the moment all we have is...

go out & get wet, splashing in puddles
blow bubbles
have a disco & collapse on beanbags
washing up plastic dishes

I used to take mine swimming, as long as they are wrapped up warm and dried properly they love it and it tires them out. Also soft play (indoor) depends if there is anywhere near you. Also, used to invite a friend with similar ageed child / take turns to go to each other's houses - even if LOs fight, it's a distraction! anything to alleviate the boredom!!

its a tough one isnt it- like the swimming idea- mean to go every week but then DS ALWAYS has a cold! have friends over also which aliviates my boredom at least!!! Think am going to brave the miso weather and go the park after he's had his nap.
chocolate shoes- we also like to have a mini disco- he loves dancing-very funny to watch!

Always used to do swimming as well, even at that age.

Local library, even just for a change of scene and new books to read.

Think we used to just go out anyway, dd1 always liked being under her raincover and then when old enough to hold an umbrella and splash in wellies the fun really started.

Mine still remember the wet day we pretended to go to the beach. Central heating turned up full blast, swimming costumes, towels spread out, beach balls, drinks with little paper umbrellas, a designated diving board chair for jumping into the "sea"9a beanbag!) picnic lunch, a tray of split peas (because I had a huge bag of them!) to dig in. I took lots of photos and we made a page for our scrapbook. It was huge fun!

BTW, they can still go swimming even if they have a cold if they are feeling OK.

we make cakes..play hide and seek or put a dvd on...my 15mnth old likes hide and seek a lot!!!!
She totters about giggling and giving everyone elses hiding places away!!!

You could make play doh...I do that sometimes...

We sometimes line all the chairs in a long line to make a bus...each child gets a plastic plate as a steering wheel (they argue over who is going to be driver...so they all get a wheel!)

arrange the chiars or a clothes airer with a sheet over it and make a little den. My DD is 3 now and has always enjoyed this game. You could do picnics in there or read, or even take a nap if you make it comfy.
