My boy (15 months now) hates being picked up, held

I've two girls 3 and 5 yrs now and a little boy who is 15 months. At around 6 months he started going through a phase on not sitting still, throwing himself backwards and some odd movements. In fact I was worried he was having seizures or something as he would just go really stiff and jerky ect. Anyway this was ruled out with eeg. He also wouldn't sit up straight and was about 9 months before sitting totally independently without throwing himself back. Since then he's been ok and started walking Ct about 14 months.
Anyway, now he just hates being picked up, I'm not sure if this is just down to him wanted to be independent but he just tries to wriggle free each time. He is just the opposite of 'clingy'
He always goes to sleep at night by himself, doesn't really need attention etc and he doesn't really approach me for hugs/cuddles unless I have chocolate !

Is this normal boy behaviour? Obviously I'm busy with three of them and I know we don't spend time together but I'm wondering if this behaviour is because of that or soething I have/haven't done.? !

One more thing I noticed is he turns his eyes down, especially to strangers. Almost in a 'shy' pose.
