7mo doesn't put anything in her mouth

Dd is 7 months and has never put things in her mouth. She will happily pick things up and play with them, bang them, pass them back and forth etc but she shows no interest at all in putting them in her mouth.

She is fine being fed by me but won't try to put the spoon in her mouth. If I give her a piece of fruit or a rice cake, it gets played with as if it were a toy but it never goes near her mouth.

She is a thumb sucker from the minute she was born and will lick things that are within reach of her tongue, such as the zip on her coat, but just doesn't bring things to her mouth.

I know people will say I'm lucky because I don't need to keep an eye on her all the time, but I am a bit concerned.

Have you spoken to your health visitor? They may be able to give you some reassurance. A friend of mine was set on doing baby led weaning with her dd but had to abandon the idea after dd showed no interest in feeding herself.

The early stages of weaning can be really stressful but babies become interested in food at different stages. Sorry, no concrete advice either way.

Hv is away for 2 weeks but will hopefully have some advice when she's back. Smile

she's very young still. my ds wouldn't put anything in his mouth either at that age, he'd sit in front of a sandwich and cry till I put little pieces in for him. I just embraced spoon feeding and relished feeding him. He slowly got much better, I always made sure there was some finger food at each meal, he has suddenly become very independent aged 14m, and will push me away now and will only feed himself, enjoy it for now. ...
