Screaming 4month old during dressing

Hi, our baby girl 3 months old has developed a habit screaming her lungs out or till there is no sound, when we dress her. It always starts when a top goes over head and arms need to go through, or a coat when her arms go through, or baby grow again with her arms. We are so gentle with her getting dressed, but is so distressed with her arms. It only developed a month ago, she never had a problem before. Also, we are sure she isn't in pain as you can move her arms and dance with her arms and she doesn't fuss. Any ideas?? Thanks

I think all babies go through this phase. I usually will try to distract her attention with something she can grab on while I quickly (and gently of course) dress her. Not 100% success without the struggle though, but reduce the it a bit :)

Put her clothes on the radiator before you put them on. IME it always helps when they're nice and toasty!

Some babies just hate it and there's noting you can do but get it over with quickly and efficiently. Some do the same about nappy changes.

I've childminded dozens of babies and they all got over it after a little while. It does make you feel like a complete cow for doing to to them but they settle down and forgive you very quickly once it's over.

Get everything ready before you start, try to be a quick as possible and give her a lovely cuddle when you've finished. She'll be fine.

Absolutely normal! I found that singing nursery rhymes sometimes helped, or 'Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush' (This is the way we push through our arms ... etc)

I used to have the same running commentary I did with ds each time I dressed him - "over the head, now one arm, two arms" etc. I think it helped him know when it was coming to an end & he'd calm down.

mine is the same! hates, hates, hates getting dressed, coat etc. if I can I cover him with blankets rather than getting a coat on him!
he is slightly better now we sit him up as much as possible but still cries. Sorry to say he is 9 months!

Mine did too. Still does at 10 months. Just the over the head bit though.

mines the same too at 5month shes okay with the bottom half its the minute you mess with jet head or arms she will go stiff and scream. i try to do it slowly ie do the bottom half, leave her abit then quickly whip a top on while shes sat playing.

Feel so much better thanks!! Will try the running commentary and/ or sane song. Good idea so she knows it's coming to an end!

My little boy did from been about 6 days old then stopped and had started over the past week (he's 13 weeks now) it's an absolute nightmare!! But as soon as I pick him up its all smiles and giggles I think it's just one of those things! it's how I feel when I have to get dressed for work! Haha!
