21month dd started biting, help!

this week my 21 month old dd has biten another child twice. I need to nip it in the bud, what should i do if she does it again. i told her how bad it was and had time out for 90 seconds on each occassion, if this hasnt worked any other suggestions.

It's a tough one this, to be honest it is something that she will do for a while - I know that's no consolation, but she will snap out of it herself when she sees how sore she is leaving her victim!! a friend of mine swore that her dd only did it once because she saw her and bit her right back - the look of astonishment and quick realisation of the pain made her not do it again. My ds did it for probably six months and got the usual time outs and withdrawal of toys, but I think it really is a phase and it will pass.

hope it does pass, sooner rather than later as i have 8 week old dd too, and im hoping she doesnt do it to her. Im sure she wont, but i need to trust her around her sister.

Its awful, I feel for you. DD is now 2.9 but started doing it at about 18 months. Took a long time before she grew out of it about a year. She then moved on to face pinching/scratching and eye gouging - lovely! Fingers crossed she does at last seem to be coming out the other side - just as I was starting to get really desperate. Nothing I did or said helped. She would just get frustrated and go for the nearest fleshy object to relieve her tension.

I have got very upset by it on occassions (and been a horrid shouty mum) Feel so guilty afterwards and it doesn't help, so try and stay calm and saintly, apologise to the victim and their mother and repeat repeat repeat "she will grow out of it"

Sorry, not very optimistic post, your DD may well grow out of it sooner, and you may handle it better than I have!
