At what age can children usually walk downstairs alternate steps rather than two feet to a step?

I don't know but my 7 year old does the two step thing and it drives me insane!! It's like a herd of elephants coming down the stairs!!!! AngryAngry

My DS is 2 and he alternates steps. Unfortunately his legs aren't really long enough so it takes a lot of effort! They all vary with these things.

About 4yrs old to walk up & downstairs like an adult, around 3 to go up one foot to each step & down 2 feet to each step.

Perhaps it depends how long their legs are ?
