My 14 week DD tonight became hysterical when left with DH. HELP!!

DD has been left with DH daily for bottle of EBM and bath. She has had bottles since 3 weeks, and has recently been trying to refuse them. I went for a run, came back and she was literally shrieking like I have never heard her do before. Rest of the day with me was fine, but she only calmed down when I picked her up tonight. DH is a fantastic dad, v hands on, and spends time alone with her every day. He is devastated by this behaviour....she screamed for an hour and a half with him, refused resolutely to take the bottle and is currently asleep exhausted. The screaming started when she was not hungry (having been fed by me) and seemed ok otherwise, and only stopped when he put her down and didn't interact with her. He is gutted; I am upset...any advice/experience??

Has anything changed at all as she has just started to refuse the bottles? Did she choke or anything??? Only say this as if she was taking them and suddenly stopped i just wondered if you noticed a turning point? She doesn't have any digestive disorders does she which could be causing her to feel uncomfortable? Sorry for all the questions. I haven't encountered anything similar with my LO but he can be clingy on occasions ... hopefully someone else may be able to post with some more advice. sorry you have had a rough time.

Do you b/feed? Could you leave a bra/tshirt that you've worn with a bit of b/milk on it? The smell may soothe her- your fella could drape it over his chest and cuddle her maybe.

I dont really have any advice for you, but wanted to let you know your not on your own.

On monday night i went to a weight watchers class and left dh with my 14 week old dd. She hated it. She screamed and he couldnt settle her, she wouldnt drink anything.

When i came home her eyes were red and swollen from crying (i started crying 2). that evening she was awake really late just suckling my breast, she didnt want to leave go..

Like your dh, mine is very hands on with all our children. But he is in the navy and has been on course for 10 months, so has only been a weekend dad for the most part.

too be honest i dont think my dd knows him that well and hopefully that attachement will grow with time.

But...

She is very attached to me and most of the time i am the only one who can settle her.

notyummy, you are not alone. My dd (now 18 weeks but has been doing it for a good while) and my friend's baby, a week older have done exactly the same thing to their poor dads and it's very upsetting for them. My DH has bathed and bottled DD since week 2 and is bottle fed rest of day. She stopped taking bottle off him and would only take from me. HAs sorta calmed down now. friend's baby did the same but then refused all bottle ever and only other day took first bottle from her DH in WEEKS. Can't offer any advice except that to keep persevering and in case of DD she has started taking the bottle from him again. I think it was that particular feed cos she would take one at other times. Allowed DH to do this on saturdays so he could see it was her and not him as was v upset about it all.

My DD (14wks) does this frequently when my DH takes her so I can have a bath, make tea or sort washing !! Last wk I fed her (BF) then went to have bath. DD started screaming inconsolably. Only calmed down when DH brought her into the bathroom and sat down with her talking to me.
Try to reassure him, my DH gets upset but its not his fault, I spend all day with DD so she gets so used to seeing my face - poor her !
Not sure what she'll do when I have to go back to work - hoping she'll have improved then as will have started weaning...
