Tearful 5yo boy

Just wondering if anyone had any advice or experience of this? Ds turned 5 a few weeks ago. For the past few weeks he has been very tearful and needy, especially when tired. He's always said 'I love you mummy' a lot but it seems to be going into overkill, along with 'I miss you' and he gets really teary, when I'm not even going anywhere?! Could this be linked to the testosterone surge I hear about? Or should I be concerned? I thought it was over tiredness pre half term, but it's carried on every day, usually in the afternoon/eve.

He has lots of friends, a younger sister, loves school so no probs there. His dad and I have been split for over 3 years so don't think it's related to that, but could be?

Any thoughts?!

A bad dream? Has he heard of something through older children that's upset him? Overtired? My DS is 3 and he can be a bit like this sometimes, I sort of go over the top and shower him with "I love you'" etc and he eventually seems to get bored by it and then he perks up.

Hi! I second what Exit says. The testosterone surge is a myth. It only happens at puberty. This too shall pass..

Hello, thanks for replying. He has mentioned a bad dream about monsters so guess it could be connected. I was just taken by surprise at the clingy tearfulness continuing for a second week, without reference to dreams /bedtime, so worried it could be more. I guess it's just another phase he'll get over.
