My 8 month old is not babbling yet....

Hi guys. My 8 month old son is not babbling yet. He coos, blows rasperries, laughs and clicks his tongue, but shows no interest in saying ba or ga or anything along those lines. All the other babies his age seem to be doing this. Am I just being paranoid?
He is crawling and seems normal in all other respects...

I don't think you should be worried, especially as he's making sounds with his mouth.

Don't worry about it just enjoy him whilst he can't shout at you and stop comparing to others. I bet their are a million things he can do that others can't.

Thanks ladies. Does anyone else have a non-babbling 8 month old?

Hi Westwood. My son is now 9 1/2 months and only started babbling a few weeks ago. however, he is not crawling yet and only got his first tooth last week (all his friends had teeth months ago) so it just goes to show they are all different. Once your son starts babbling - he won't stop!!! I used to make all the baba mama noises at my son and he used to just laugh at me - now he's started babbling, he copies me but this has only been in the last week or so.
don't worry, it's perfectly normal to be paranoid - its part of being a parent i think!!!!

I don't think my dd1 started to babble until about 11 months - she was far too busy crawling and walking!

I am pretty sure DD wasn't babbling much at 8 months ... can't shut her up now (2.8 years)

thanks ladies - this is all making me feel a lot better. He is my 3rd - you'd think I would have run out of paranoia by now!

DS is 8 months and has just started babbling... DD took ages though (as far as I recall).

Your DS seems to do everything else he should, and is making sounds even if not the "right" ones. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts
