2.4 DD - What the heck is going on?

DD has in the last week started throwing these horrendous tantrums - proper ear piecing wailing. She's always capable of a strop but these are a whole new level. Today we had to abandon a trip to the park before taking her grandparents to the station as I couldn't get her to calm in the car (which started as she wanted her cardigan off after I strapped her in, then wanted a snack, then her blanket - none of which solved the problem(.

Some of it tiredness related (its def worse if she's tired) but in general its just not getting her own way!! I put her to bed after getting her out of the car for the first time for a nap in about 9 months!!!

Guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that it is developmental and I'm not loosing my marbles. No major changes at home, she's eating well, has been ill with a nasty cold but is recovered now. She's really clingy to me since being ill but this is only really when others are around.

The rest of the time she a sunny, charming little thing who is talking well.

My ds is 2.2 years and I have noticed a change in behaviour since he hit 2. Before he would have the odd strop but it would be for a reason and once solved easily he would be fine.

Now he seems to have so many more strops and kicks off in lots more situations, like going home/changing his nappy/putting shoes or coat on, he's very strong willed. Lots more moaning too and crying whenever you say no.

I am due #2 in a just over a week so guess it could be related to that and get worse once dd is born.

DD is 2.8 and is exactly the same. We had to abandon a walk in the park today because of one of her meltdowns. Our 8mo just looks at her in a bewildered sort of way.

Yep - this is what they call the Terrible Twos :) Don't worry! She will grow out of it.

Having this too - and have a 6 week old to juggle. Cue abandoned trips out due to toddler not wanting shoes or socks on or suddenly hating his jumper. He's 2.6. I'm thinking it will be easier when the weather gets better. Not sure why!

It could be related to the cold. My dd is 2.4 and her behaviour is awful when she's a bit poorly. Major tantrumming which doesn't normally happen otherwise and continues for a few days even after she appears better.

I'm at my wits end with my 2.8 yr old. Her behaviour has really deteriorated in the last few weeks. Screams and shouts at me. And whenever I'm talking to another adult she shouts stop talking shush! This morning I asked her to come and get ready and she looked at square in the eyes and cut me mid sentence and said "shush. I'm watching this." She has become so rude and contrary. I'm on the verge of bringing in consequences which I was worried she was too young to understand but something has to be done about how she talks to me. She was shouting from the living room to the kitchen "get me a snack now". Like I'm her slave. We don't talk to her like this so she's not picking it up from us. I don't know what to do with her! I use the 1,2,3 and you'll go into time out but she won't stay and has a huge meltdown screaming sorry mummy then once I've accepted her apology she drops the tantrum in a second. It's all pure drama with her. Sigh. I feel your pain.
