Just received an appointment for ds 10 month development check. Included in the letter is the ages and stages questionnaire to fill in. Does anybody know if they are supposed to be able to do all/most things on the list. It looks as though it's a point system and if they score less than a certain amount it could highlight an issue in that area. Just looking for any info anyone could tell me about it?

They're meant to be able to do most of the things on the section for their age group. Of course not all babies CAN but they're meant to....it doesn't always mean that there's an issue...they're all so different.

Are you worried about anything in particular?

Thanks for replying. He can do most of the points to some degree. I'm questioning his communication skills as I can't think of a simple command he follows. If I ask him to 'come here' he mostly does but I think that's more because I'm giving him attention than him following the command if that makes sense.

He says mama dada baba and hiya. only mama and hiya in context though. And if I ask him to clap he will some of the time without me showing him.

His gross and fine motor skills are generally good, he just can't walk along the sofa using only 1 hand.

He ticks all the boxes on problem solving

in the personal social section if I ask for a toy he doesn't always offer it and he doesn't always let go of it into my hand

I was filling ours out last week. Interestingly the things you've highlighted your ds does, my ds doesn't, and the things she does your ds doesn't!

Was surprised about the expectations for some things. I do think its normal for some sections to be stronger than others as the baby focuses on skill sets.

ah that's good to hear. I too thought the expectations were a little high on some points. There's some things that he's been doing for months on the list then others that I wasn't expecting ds to achieve until 1+
