What does your 2 year old play with?

I've not been well recently, and coupled with crappy weather we are staying in quite a bit. My DD is 2 and a bit and plays with the following toys: some happy land and little people toys and figures, a baby doll and her accessories, a big box of playfood that you can cut up and put back together, tea and cakes set, a variety of jigsaws and books. We watch a little bit of peppa pig after lunch as she won't nap, and when we can get out we go swimming or to playgroups. Unfortunately she's not a big fan of colouring, painting or play doh at the moment as she hates messy hands! Can anyone give me any other ideas of indoor activities that we could do? I feel like she gets bored a lot

Oh she also loves her toy Hoover and sweeping set!

Ping pong balls in our house and the marble run. He also like dinosaurs, train set and dd's dolly in its pushchair. Dh is sahd and they also make bread and biscuits regularly but that's a no go if your dd doesn't like messy hands I guess

Making a cup of tea (can do everything bar pouring kettle!)
Bouncing on my bed
Playing with Noah's ark and animals
Bath time (in the middle of the day with bath toys)

She also loves sorting the socks from the washing, and looking out the window and watching the rain!

We will try baking. I bought her a train set and some Lego and she doesn't touch either! I think she will get over the hands thing when she can be more creative with playdoh etc

Hanging out the washing is well enjoyed here!

My just turned 2 DS is also vehicle obsessed, loves his big train table.

I've tried to encourage his interest in toy animals and food but he's not too bothered at the moment.

Pulling all the cushions off the sofa

Give her the real Hoover, and get her doing the cleaning!

To make it easier on yourself, watch TV with her, ZingZillas, Alphablocks, etc or anything a bit 'educational'. Also suitable adult documentaries, animals, travel etc; but talk to her about it and explain anything she doesn't understand.

Longer term, get her a glockenspiel, xylophone, or keyboard, and encourage her making music.

Bubbles and balloons are big hits with my 2yr old also:

Tea party with her dollies
Giving dolly a bath amuses her for ages
Doc McStuffins medical set - means I get to lie down and be 'patient'
Peg bench thing where you hammer the wooden pegs through

Sticker books are very popular and have you tried aqua doodle for mess free art?

I'm another one with a DS (2yr) who is obsessed with vehicles. He will play with his trains/cars/trucks for hours, provided someone plays with him.

Other ideas: put on some music to dance to or some songs with actions, simple games of hide-and-seek, building cubby/car/etc from empty nappy boxes.

My daughter loves drawing. Especially spiders. She is also two. She also has the cut up fruit from Melissa & Doug

Mine likes things that aren't toys so we play with rice crispies in a tray and he spoons them into a bowl and then tips out and starts again. Sometime we then stick them on a picture.
Another vote for washing up plastic bowls and cups gets them wet but keeps them quiet for ages.
Playing hide the pony and take turns finding it in different rooms.
Stringing penne pasta onto string or again sticking it on papers.
Sometimes I just stick him in the bath in the day as he loves playing in there.
Also second the Hoover my son will Hoover the lounge quite happily.
Baby wipe and he pretends to clean his toys.

Fluffyredsocks - please tell me you do not let your 2 yr old help you make a real cup of tea?! That makes my blood run cold. If she gets burned or gets the idea that the kettle etc is a toy it would be horrific. Toddlers do not have common sense and should not be anywhere near hot drinks.

Drawing - tomy megasketcher, aquadoodle, Galt Water Magic do not
involve mess
Train/cars
Various ride ons - luckily we have the space to use these indoors
Any sort of shape sorter/put things in and out of container type toy
Balloons
Climbing on bean bag, sofa
Dancing to music
Stickers
"cleaning" with wipe or tissue or the dustpan and brush
Orchard games as pp mentions - "shopping list" game is popular

No interest in building blocks at all...

DD used to hate messy hands but has recently got over it, so keep trying occasionally.

Oh yes and she LOVES "hiding" - so stick a blanket over her and say "where is DD?" and she's delighted!

We bought dd a dolls house for her 2nd birthday and it has just endured 2 months of non-stop play!

My 2.5 year old loves:

Brio train set
Duplo
Play food (foodsies!) and tea set.

His favorite toy is "Biggie" a rather large and terrifying plastic T.Rex who is loved, kissed, bathed with him, taken to bed, fed yoghurt etc. He really is an ugly malevelant looking thing. It cracks me up to watch DS taking such tender care of him. He must be the worlds most unlikely comfort object.

Simple jigsaws - orchard Big wheels one or Melissa and Doug keep him going for a while
Putting nappies on his big bear
Animal magnets on the fridge when I'm cooking

Thanks for all your ideas. Some of them we have or do already and a few are new which we will try. She's unfortunately not interested in drawing or colouring much at the moment but hopefully she will get into the idea. She is a jigsaw fiend, we have bought her loads and she is doing 30 to 40 pieces now so I guess we can keep getting bigger ones. It seems to be her particular talent!
