how to prevent finger-sucking

My DD2 (1yo) sucks 2 fingers, especially at bed time. I seems like she may also have been chewing a bit as she's got a sore on her first finger. I think I need to stop her finger sucking at least for a time to let it heal. I tried putting a plaster on but she hates it and has it off in no time.

Can any one suggest better solutions?

Lanisol is the best thing for an over sucked finger and it doesn't matter if they get a bit in their mouths as it's safe. I'm not sure how you stop them entirely but my DD is now 2.3 and doesn't finger/thumb suck as much these days - just when very tired or falling sleep but once she's asleep it falls out of her mouth so I'm hoping it will gradually go on it's own.

Does she have a 'blanket' / comforter or soft toys she can suck, something to use instead of fingers.

My 2.6 yr old dd has sucked her 2 fingers since she was a tiny baby. She uses it as a comfort to settle herself at bedtime, when she's unsure of social situations, watching tv quietly and for any old reason really. So much so her chin is always sore because it's wet all the time. I don't know what we're going to do about it. She has comforters, special dollies etc but she always goes back to her fingers. Sorry don't have any ideas for you as we are in the same boat. hope others might have a solution for us!

Aww dd2 did this. It's so cute. We didn't stop her, just discouraged it when awake etc from about 18 mo or so. (Gave her thibgs to do etc) and she grew out if it before school age.

Sorry for the silence. No, there is no toy/blanket or whatever that she has taken to. She won't take my finger(s) instead.
I try to discourage/distract and sometimes manage to pop her fingers out once she is asleep.
I know she will grow out of it in time, but at the moment the issue is to let her sore heal. The cream I have containing Lanolin (not Lanisol but 1/10th the price) says not to be used internally so I haven't tried it yet.

I have no answers whatsoever, but dd2 had that sore thing, and it's now hardened into a callous, which is not ideal but gives her no pain whatsoever

she is still a dedicated finger sucker at 4. I'm hoping going to school in September will help her cut down to bedtime only .
