How can I get my dd to poo on the Toilet / Potty???

My daughter had been able to wee on the potty / loo since the age of 2. She never quite got doing no 2's! However she is now 2 and a half and still poos herself. I've tried treats / rewards but nothing seems to work. She is very bright and communicates to me the fact that her poos should go on the toilet. I'm just clueless and would really welcome any ideas at all.

i got the same problem she started off fine and poos went in the potty and now insists on her nappy to do them, tried refusing but she gets hysterical so i give in, she is nearly 3 and has only been out of nappies a couple of months

my son is 3 next month and still completly in nappys so you,ve done much better than me lol i can,t get him interested in the loo or potty atall, maybe i should try the glue thing

DS, just turned 3, does wees on a potty but won't do poos and asks for a nappy to go on when he knows he wants to have a poo. If I suggest that he sits on the potty he gets quite upset.

Nursery said that poos are the difficult to master and with a lot of children it comes quite a while after weeing, so I wouldn't worry mojo. Not much help but I guess she'll do it when she's ready.

I trained DS at same stage .. it took a week .. then some regressing

I figure I've done it once so I CAN do it .. I just can't be bothered again

Have you let her watch you have a poo and let her see it flush away? have heard this can work well. I am just starting to potty train my DS and he is comfortable pooing and weeing in the potty at the moment, first day at nursery in pants though so will see what happens there!

melrose dd is totally obsessed with other people doing poos! and has to inspect them! for the first week she did them all in the potty no problem then got quite hysterical about the whole thing!

DS was 2.5 and trained fine to wee in the toilet (we didn't bother much with a potty as we were in the middle of self-building our house extension and living in a caravan). However, he wouldn't poo in the toilet until much later - about 3. We tried everything, including putting him back in trainer pants, star charts etc as he knew he wanted to poo but, instead of going to the loo, the little bugger would run into the study and hide behind the door to poo his pants! So frustrating, as like mojomands DD, he was bright and knew what he was doing!

I guess they finally get it when they're ready, so agree with ginmummy. Also, once he did get the hang at around age 3, I can only remember him having 1 accident since, and he is now 4.

I wouldn't worry about it. The pooing process can be quite a tricky thing to master. She obviously feels happier and secure to do it in her nappies. Let her. As she becomes more confident with this new sensation, she will eventually opt for the potty or toilet in her own time.

you could always try getting her to poo in her nappy on the potty. otherwise just dont worry about it. it'll happen.

Funny at the moment - like Mami - we have builders in and are having lots of wk done too? I have done the watch Mummy do it and she stands there clapping shouting well done Mummy!!!

Sometimes they just don't like the feeling of 'losing' the poo, as opposed to the nice warm squishy feeling. Try folding an old teatowel/terry in the potty to poo on so she can feel it 'land'.
