Sorry, am just ranting as am so exhausted!!!

She shows ALL the signs of wanting to to sleep but just lays in her cot talking to herself which then eventually turns into cries whereby I go to try and settle her but she is WIDE awake!!! So I bloody give in and get her up!

If you dont wanna sleep then fine but why show all the signs? Just waste my time!!

It is impossible not to feel frazzled when your little one fights sleep. Sometimes they just want to be part of everything going on and refuse sleep so won't nap. How old is she?

How long do you let her cry for? It might just be a burst of defiance before she zonks out. I found that getting the vacuum cleaner out and hoovering upstairs if mine were in their bedroom did the trick. Or turning down the monitor volume so you don't hear every snuffle or peep if you're downstairs.

She has just turned 1 and been doing this for a while now. Maybe I should cut out the morning nap altogether. What do you think? She has lunch around 11 and if no morning nap would - generally - be ready for a nap after lunch.

We used to use white noise from birth up until about a month ago. We weaned her off and she seems fine.

Well it is worth a try, you might find it's successful. Other than white noise I found a good dose of fresh air helped. Honestly it's got to be the luck of the draw occasionally, if they're wired to require less sleep than their contemporaries what can be done. If your DD is only moderately cranky she might not need much shut eye just a quiet zone where she isn't stimulated for twenty minutes.

Reflecting on this thread I do recall a phase when the only day time nap was when we had to be somewhere involving a car trip. Inevitably morning or afternoon they fell asleep by the time we'd reached the corner of our street.

It sounds like she might be ready to drop her morning nap. Might be worth a try anyway! I have a just 1 year old and I think she might be heading this way too. She has never needed as much sleep as other babies, even as a newborn she would feed every 2 hours and in between that would have half an hour sleep and an hour and a half awake time!
