copying friends

My 5 year old is very articulate and spoke very clearly right from early on.Lots of children her age often still speak not very clearly. She has a tendency to copy others way of speaking. To the extent that I know who she has been playing with in school because she will speak like he or she when she gets home. This really annoys me as sometimes I feel she is going backwards copying children who still talk very baby-like. Any suggestions?

No suggestions, just commiserations !! My DD is 5.5 and does this as well. But it tends to be a more babyish tone that her friends seem to have taken up. Drives me nuts ! No suggestions, but I tend to say I can't understand her and she'll just have to talk normally if she wants anything.

think they all do this - I always think it's the sign of a good ear being able to mimic other children so well!

(I too can remember dd talking in the most irritating baby like voice and it drove me mad - unfortunately of course, best thing to do is not to react but I know how annoying it is!!)
