15 month old not walking

Bit worried about my 15mo son. He's not waking yet, nor showing any signs of almost being there.

He cruises around on furniture, is able to stand for a few moments indecently (until he realises he's not holding on), and loves 'walking' by pushing a chair back and forth the kitchen. However, he's showing no signs or wanting to walk independently yet. He hates it when we try to help him by pulling him up and holding his hands - he'll only walk a few steps before whining and sitting back down.
I don't know what else to do to encourage him.
Should also mention he's quite a slight child. His father and I are both below average height, and he's already showing signs of following the same build. Despite being born on the 50th centile (7,11 at birth), he soon dropped to 9th where he's been since. He is still wearing 9-12 month trousers as the 12-18 size is massive on him. And I should add he was late at sitting indepently - not until about 9 months. He hated tummy time as a baby and would just headbutt the floor until he made himself sick.
Really asking - should I be worried, and how can I help him?

There's no need to be worried yet. My DD didn't bear any weight on her legs at all until she was a year old, and walked at just over 15 months. It's probably a confidence thing. Your son is obviously happy to cruise the furniture and walk with support. He'll stand and walk unaided when he decides he's ready

Thanks, it's just so hard not to compare with other kids though isn't it?? All the other toddlers around here seem to have been walking from about 10 months. And I'm still carrying mine around at groups etc.

My daughter didn't shuffle till 12 months, and walk till 17months, and no health professional was concerned about that.

My dd was 20 months when she walked. She bum shuffled everywhere and refused to stand! When she did walk, she just did it... Not much of the wobbling and falling over etc, she just walked and was pretty steady in her feet straight away.

My youngest didn't walk independently until she was 17th months, I think she just liked to be 100% confident in her abilities before doing anything!

My oldest didn't walk until just over 15 months, but at her two year check she was advanced for gross motor skills (climbing stairs etc). They do everything at their own pace so don't worry. Also, late walker means better balance and less face planting when they do start walking!

Guess I just need to wait for him to do it in his own time.
Probably doesn't help that we've got hard wood floors he's taken a tumble on a good few times already. Just annoying that he's been cruising for months now, without any seeming development. He can do everything except walk. He's even (worryingly) trying to master climbing downstairs standing rather than his backwards crawl/slide method.

My daughter walked at 11 months - my friends didn't till 18 months.

As babies my daughter was always one step ahead of my friends - it means nothing now. Developmentally they are on a par (if anything I would less my dd is less physically able than my friends.

I'm rambling a bit but trying to say I wouldn't worry about it too much

DD didn't walk til 18mo. As I'm a paeds physio I knew not to be worried and just enjoyed having a stationary baby for longer! It's great if they walk later as have so much more understanding and compliance, so much less stressful than having an 11mo liability wondering around!!
