please help!

I had a cesarean on Thurs am and am now on a hospital ward with dd1. Apart from roughly 4 hours, she has not slept on her own in the crib but will only sleep on me. She isn't fussy when being passed round visitors but refuses to sleep when she isn't being held. She starts off grizzling then gets more and more distressed, flailing around and pulling at bedding, scratching her skin etc. To make matters worse, she has jaundice so needs to sleep under uv lamp but she won't.

Please help me with tips for how to get her to sleep in a crib!

She's a new born, she's biologically designed to want to be in contact with you. As for the uv lamp, try putting her under it after each feed, she may be happy enough for a short time if she's got a full tummy. Hope you're both better soon.

Ask the nurse if they can show you how to lightly swaddle her. I don't know if it's recommended nowadays but it was all that would allow my DD to sleepx

When she's on you, is her face to your chest? Would you be able to pop her down in her crib on her front? Took me weeks to realise ds was refusing his crib because he's a tummy sleeper, went from 4 broken hours a night to 7 hours straight the first time! It's less safe from a SIDS point of view, but things will be much more monitored in a hospital and it might be worth trying in order to get her under the lamp :)

Also could you strip down to 1 layer and go under the lamp with her?

Have you tried feeding her while lying down? It would be more comfortable and relaxing for you and (hopefully) once she's in a deep sleep you can transfer her to the crib. It may be less disturbing for her because she'll be going from lying down to lying down again, rather than from your arms to lying down, iyswim?
