I am very anxious about my dds development and I'm finding it really hard. I am a born worrier but I also have a disabled daughter who has a really serious condition so I'm finding it difficult not to worry. My dd will not tolerate tummy time whatsoever and believe me I've tried everything. She does roll over but cries when she gets on tummy. She will sit on my lap and support head for a bit but will flop to side after a bit. Should I be worried? Is this normal or is she way behind? I really don't want to talk to health visitor as just makes me more anxious and worry. Thanks

My DS hated tummy time at this age but has gone on to crawl (at 6 months), cruise and roll "normally*. You're baby's only tiny so I would try not to worry too much. We have a hv visit at 15 weeks here to monitor baby development check up on us

ALL babies hate tummy time at this age (and later!)!

Having baby on your chest, with you slightly laid back also counts as tummy time.

My D'S is the same age and only tolerates tummy time for seconds before crying!! Have you tried lying her on your chest so she looks up at your face, thus works a bit for us.
I wouldn't worry which is easy to say bit not so easy to do. xx

Thinking about your post a bit more, the real issue is about you worrying lots isn't it? I don't know what type of condition your daughter has but I worried about my DD a lot too (because she was born prem) and I scrutinised her development for months and months until I realised that I couldn't force her to grow/roll over/eat/talk/walk etc. The only thing I could do was create the right environment/conditions for her to thrive but after that it was up to her. I also tried to be her advocate and get as much medical help as I could get. And I came to the realisation that even if she would have some problem we would deal with it. Easier said than done, I know, but that's my word of wisdom for this evening! Flowers

Thanks for your replies, nice to know it's not just my baby who hates tummy time. Dildals I think you've hit the nail on the head, I have spent the last 5 years in a state of anxiety about my eldest daughter, as every childhood illness she has brings with it a risk of a stroke and brain damage. I am on constant guard against germs and illness, I am the neurotic mum with the hand gel and anti bac wipes everywhere! I think the whole thing has made me a bit crazy, and now I've got a whole new person to worry about.

Yes, I am waving with handgel in the one hand and the antibacterial wipes in the other! How about forcing every visitor to wash their hands? My personal nightmares revolve around RSV and febrile convulsions ... I am dreading the winter ... Plus of course I can drive myself nuts thinking of every possible scenario which could get her killed. Don't even get me started on comparing your baby to other babies of the same age. Or the thought of another hospitalisation.

I know it's easier said than done and normally if anyone says it to me I want to punch them in the face but try and enjoy your baby. I have made a pact with myself that I can only think about bad things for 30 secs after that I have to stop. She's 15m now and it did get easier for me, especially when she started crawling I realised that she was going to be alright, also because I started to see that there is such a wide range of 'normal' in babies this young.

Both my daughters hated tummy time and is never did it with them. Ever. However they were both upright in a sling a lot which counts as tummy time Smile both have lovely shaped heads and were walking by 10 months!
It's easy to say don't worry - and I have anxiety disorder so I know what I'm talking about! But this one is really a non issue ;)

Incidentally my current panic/ obsession is that I've got BSE/CJD and have passed it on to them!

Thanks BustyCraphopper your post did make me smile, only because I have similar thoughts to these at times and seeing it written down just shows how irrational these thoughts can become. I have never been diagnosed with anything but I do feel overwhelmed with anxiety at times x

It is haft and I feel it really cuts into my time with them because I'm so obsessed about my latest panic. I'm currently trying mindfulness techniques which seem to be helping, and easily googlable so free! Have you tried anything? X

No I haven't tried anything. I know I have a problem with negative and obsessive thoughts though. My family are very much the 'just get on with it' kind of people and any metal weakness is kind of ridiculed. a few times I have tried to discuss things but this seems to have just earned me the label of moaning hypochondriac, so I generally keep it to myself which I do find exhausting.

My DD also hated tummy time. She'd just lie and whinge. In fact she hated being on her tummy until she learnt to crawl at 7 months. She's now 11.5 months and just taking her first steps. I haven't known a baby yet who liked tummy time!

My baby loved tummy time. Not helpful to you, but just so you don't think they're all the same! Rolling at 3 months is young though, isn't it? Can you go to a health visitor drop in for some reassurance over the head holding?
