2o month old dd has suddenly become very clingy and whingy. usually easy to put her to sleep of a day but now you have to stay with her until she is asleep, has anyone else had any experience of childrens behaviour changing at this age and if so how does it last for?

I had this with my dd during the terrible 2s. At first I was very patient and thought she was scared of the dark and left lights on for her, etc. But this didn't work - she tried every trick in the book to delay sleep time, like saying she wanted to go on the potty and other clever tricks! One night she even fell asleep sat up on the potty after having screaming habdabs for about half an hour.
Eventually we put a gate on the bedroom door with the landing light on so it wouldn't be dark and scary and for about a week or so she would fall asleep on the floor having a tantrum. Very distressing but if we intervened it took twice as long. She got the message after a week or so and decided it would be easier to put herself back to bed.
