Hi My DS (2yo) is not coping too well at the moment with arrival of new baby (3 months). Worst time is when feeding . Have no idea what I can do to discipline him when am busy feeding the baby so can't start the naughty step etc as can't keep stopping feeding every 2 seconds to put him back on it. I feel this it the time when he is his naughtiest and I am most helpless - please any tips!!!!!

Have you tried putting together a basket of special toys and games which your ds has only have when you are feeding your new baby? My mum said that this is what she did with us and it worked really well.

I don't think the naughty step is a good idea because your ds will start to associate your new baby and feeding with a punishment.

I'm afraid I only have one dd, but I'm sure there are others around who have been through this.

Have you tried reading to him while feeding? Or letting him snuggle next to the two of you and watch a bit of TV? My DD used to hold the book and I would read to her while feeding DS. Or would set up her colouring near me and she'd do that. Depends how long a feed takes you really. He is probably just feeling left out of all the "cuddling" new baby gets. As feeding a newborn looks like cuddling to a toddler ! My DD got to the stage where she would sit and feed her doll when I fed DS. So both were bf (doll & DS)

my ds was 13 months when i had ds2 and he had a doll or teddy and a baby bottle he would pretend to feed it with when i was feeding ds2.he was happy with that or he's stroke his hair while i fed him so he was close too.
