Odd ball son?

Hi, I think my 3.5yo son may not be like the other children of his age.

At pre-school, he plays with others when encouraged. The other day though, all the others were doing a singalong with gestures they had practiced a lot. My DS was stood there like a goldfish. No attempt to sing. No attempt to wave along. He did pick up a prop at the end and waved that.

I find he's no where near as verbal as the other children of his age. He likes to sit my himself and engage intensely in an activity by himself (usually cars). He's imaginative though (invents stories) and laughs at jokes, likes hugs etc. His verbal skills are noticeably behind - there are times at home I can't follow his sentence - he insists on speaking in the third person.

I know this is not in the range of 'normal' in the narrow sense, but how unusual is this sort of behaviour?

Good question. My nearly 3 Ds is simular. Has speach therapy. Sounds exactly the same but no imaginary play or jokes ( though I wouldn't expect that yet for him) hoping its just his way x
