28 month old slow with speech

he is my 4th child and he is very slow with his speech, he prefers to point and make noises instead of talking. he will copy what u say if u ask him to but he wont just 'talk' what can I do to help him? x

IMO it's still early enough to not be too concerned as long as comprehension is there. I would suggest not responding to points and noises, maybe actually saying 'Would you use your words?'.

My DD is nearly 3 and she has a normal vocab and is speaking more clearly now, but she took a lot longer than my DS to start talking clearly. Her comprehension has always been very good.

How is his understanding? Have you had a hearing test recently?

If you are worried you should talk to your GP. They may be able to put your mind at rest regarding anything serious and also may refer her for hearing tests. Kids are quite wily too - if they get what they want through pointing they may simply not bother with words...
