Suddenly hates bath time

My son normally loves bath time but has all of a sudden started hating it over the past few days. He clung on to me yesterday when I was putting him in and just would not sit down, he was very distressed. It was definitely not too hot, I am always very careful and err on the side of caution.

It's gradually been getting harder to bath him anyway as he wants to walk around the edge of the bath and attempt to climb out all I can think is he has had a couple of issues- one when he took his visor off when I was rinsing his hair and hot upset, another when he swallowed some water when he was crawling and dunked his head. He was upset, but on both occasions I took him out and cuddled him before continuing with the bath with no more problems.

Does anybody know what it could be? He normally loves his bath, spends half his time happily playing and the other half standing up, throwing toys overboard, reaching for things etc. Despite having a non slip mat I normally keep hold of him and try to get him to sit in case he falls and yesterday he did slip and bang his ribs on the side when I was trying yo rinse his hair Sad. God I sound like mother of the year don't I?

I don't know what has gotten in to him, should I just try topping and tailing for a few days and try again?

How old is he?
My dd went off baths very dramatically at around 1.5, and from reading up I learned it is quite common.
In her case I am convinced it is because her dad decided to rinse her hair using the shower, which was a bit too fast for her I think. But he won't have it.
Anyway, what got her back into baths was buying some new bath toys - just simple things like a couple of rubber animals from Poundland. She is quite materialistic, I suppose (our fault, I guess) so the bribery of new toys always seems to work well!

My DD is the same. She's just turned 2 and its been going on for months. She loves water (thankfully), our hot tub and swimming including the showers there but ours? You would think I was murdering her!

He is 14 months old, it's good to know it's not just us. He has got tons of bath toys, but might take something different up and see if the novelty of something new will distract him a little.

We had this for a bit when we'd moved house. Matey bubbles and a new fish sponge did the trick. Also I made some bath paints out of shaving foam + food colouring which Dd was desperate to play with but was only allowed to in the bath (go for pastel colours or it's tricky to get off).

Otherwise leave it for a bit... Won't kill him for a few days.

DD went through that phase. We just didn't bath her unless is was absolutely necessary (as little as once every 2-3 weeks or when her hair was desperate). One day she just decided to get in with me and was fine from then.
