Biting

Really hope someone can help please?!

My 8 month DD just will not stop biting and it's starting to cause problems!!

So she is already a problem baby for many reasons but one being that she won't drink milk from anything apart from the breast...

But she is biting all the time. She bites my nipple when feeding (not always and more so when tired I think as seems to mostly be bedtime feed) which is complete agony. So much so that I cannot feed her as she just bites down and clamps so hard I struggle to remove the nipple!! So she often goes to bed having had no milk Sad

She also needs rocking to sleep and now when I rock her she turns towards me and bites my arm really really hard, I'm covered in bruises!! She doesn't seem to do it when my husband rocks her.

And it's not just me, she also bites her own arm so badly that she is covered in bite marks which looks awful and constantly chews her index finger.

She won't have a dummy and won't become attached to a comfort blanket type thing.

I can't work out why she does this. Could it be related to teething? She has 8 teeth but this hasn't happened before with any of the others. And then how do I stop this??

Really hope someone can give me some advice

Thanks

Have you spoken to a BFC about the biting whilst feeding? Could you go to a local Bfing Support Group and talk it through? There are some details of the support available here and see if there is a la Leche league group nearby Smile.

I've not come across biting themselves, when does she do this? There is a little bit of info on babies biting here.

You sound like you are having a difficult time coping at the moment. How was your birth?
