My son is 3.4 years old and I'm trying to encourage him to entertain himself for short periods of time. He completely refuses at the moment and it's making it difficult for me to even get meals cooked. My oh works away a lot so I'm on my own much of the time and I really need to get jobs done at times.
He goes to preschool 2 days a week and always says he plays alone there but just won't do it at home. He is an only child too.

Any tips or ideas for toys that might encourage him are gratefully received

I had the same problem with DD and DS. The toys they played most with were one of those kitchens with all the bits and also a Brio train set.

Thanks. The train set kept him occupied for 30 seconds earlier and with his kitchen he can't seem to play with it unless someone is playing with him!
I got the paints out earlier in the hope hed crack on with some painting, but he was over and done in 2 minutes. Took me longer to tidy up than he spent painting!

You have my sympathies! Hope somebody comes along with some other ideas.
