This is just a phase, isn't it?

3.10yr old DS1 had always been a fairly open eater. Recently he's started refusing new things (today he refused bananas and custard with honey, all things he enjoys as separate flavours. He also only eats blueberries in pancakes, won't eat kiwi fruit, won't try jelly... ). It's just control, isn't it, and I should keep offering new things and not make a big deal of it when he won't eat it, but praise 16mo DS2. Right?

He's had jelly before, not that often though. I don't want you to think I've withheld jelly from a toddler...

Yep. Be encouraged. Kids won't starve ??
I know it's hard, one of my DD's eats hardly anything some days just like her sister a year or two ago who now eats very well.
Don't give in. My 3 year old does this and I know she's just trying to get me to give her 'naughty' stuff to eat, but, if you ignore I and leave it long enough they will give up and eat whatever if they are really hungry!!

my ds does not like the texture of some foods. I had to just give him the types of foods he would eat but now he is 5 he is now trying some of the textures he would not eat before.

I think it is important you keep trying but not so much it puts him off food. My ds ended up with a food phobia. I guess you need to figure out if it is control, sensory, just don't like it. I am guessing most of the time it is about control and not sensory like my ds.
