Today I was cutting my ten week olds nails when she jerked away and I cut the tip of her finger she screamed for half an hour in pain. I feel like such a failure as a mother I can't even cut her nails, does anyone have any advice please

Lol - i did that to, and there was blood! i was very close to running to my next door neighbour screaming.

It was horrible. I had my other half next to me I ended up giving her over to him because of how guilty I felt

I accidentally gave DD a paper cut on a book when she was very tiny. We still have the book. There's still a little blood mark on the page. I still feel awful whenever I see it. She's 7 now. She got over it! Grin

On the nails thing, bite them yourself. So much easier and you won't let yourself hurt her.

I just file DD2s nails with a glass nail file.

Thank you il give them a try. After her crying she stopped and has seemed to forget about it completely now

I've done this to both my girls... felt truly truly awful.

just wait until they fall down the stairs on your watch... or until you bang their head on the door frame whilst carrying them through... or clip a teeny tiny bit of their arm into the bouncer chair strap... I have a massive catalogue of errors!!

rest assured it happens to us all.

I have done this. She was screaming and I was almost in tears. I actually took a little chunk out of the tip of her finger. So much blood. Luckily DH was able to calm us both down.

Its hard not to feel guilty but these things happen.

Oh bless you. I did this to my ds , so much blood , he rubbed it all in his face and hair I was horrified lol

That afternoon he had his immunisations, I was terrified the nurse would report me to social services. She laughed, said she did it when her baby was tiny and told me to relax

I used an emery board and now he's a lot bigger nail clippers are ok again

olivesnutsandcheese · 22/09/2014 18:03

ha I did this too - DS was about 3 weeks old. I definitely cried more than him.

I used to lie him on the sofa ( in the middle so you can get round all angles) when his nails needed doing for one of his naps and wait till he went to sleep then went for it.

Then we progressed to the high chair with daddy distracting

good luck Grin Grin

I also did this with my DD when she was only 1 month old, I panic when I saw a blood and my DD screamed very load I really feel guilty, I keep on hugging and kissing her, and saying sorry again and again. Until she just fell asleep with me.
I think almost moms experienced this kind of situation.

startwig1982 · 23/09/2014 14:30

I did this with ds a couple of times: there's always a lot of blood! This time round with dd in biting her nails instead!

isthisme · 23/09/2014 14:35

DH did this too, he never cut them again! Don't feel bad, bite them from now on, much better option.
