Please help, we have just had to collect my daughter from school as she got very angry and upset wouldn't talk to teachers at all and couldn't be persuaded to do anything - now at home won't talk to us about what has happened I'm at a loss of what to do! She is 12

Is she not talking at all? If so take her to GP or OOH doctor.

If she is just not telling you what happened, then find out who she will talk to (eg. Aunty Barbara or a sibling). If you can trust them to negotiate between you and let you know what you really need to know (bullying etc) then get her to talk to them.

Does she have a SEN/SN?

Did the school give you a letter explaining why she was being excluded? If not this could be an illegal exclusion, which is an issue as it could make getting her help harder.

Not talking at all would be very concerning. If she is not talking at all what is she doing? Is she crying, sitting still, pacing? If she is just refusing to talk about what happened ask if she can write it, or send you a text this is sometimes easier than having to say the words. Or is there someone she will tell? Can she cuddle up with the cat or dog and tell them (with you sat quietly in the room but not in direct line of sight although she knows you are there)
