Hi all, goodness I feel like such a bad mummy as I've just realised I should've been brushing DD's teeth morning and night since they appeared, had bottom 2 at 8 months and now tops are coming through. I let her play with toothbrush in bath to get used to it.
Anyway my bad habit and problem is that I've always given a bottle before bed and usually she falls asleep towards end of bottle so I just lay her in cot and she's asleep, sometimes she isn't asleep fully but settles ok. She settles fine for naps without milk. So I guess what I do at bedtime is wrong as she ideally would have teeth brushed after last milk right? How should I break this habit ? Any help greatly received x

I brush properly in the bath, then after last milk i put tooth paste on a muslin cloth and rub onto teeth in her sleep.

For the moment, brush them as well as you can before the last bottle.

Could you very gradually start changing her evening routine. Where are you when she falls asleep on the bottle? Perhaps if you change where she has the bottle she may be less comfortable and less inclined to fall asleep. If she is falling asleep on the bottle, does that mean it is taking her a while to drink it? It's recommended that you try and move away from bottles at around 1 anyway (not that I can talk, we still can't drop the damn things at 2.7 Blush) but I think it would be helpful to at least get her gradually into the habit of drinking the milk quite quickly and not keeping the teat in her mouth for a while as she falls asleep.

At that age with DD it was big bottle of milk, teeth cleaned straight away, then straight into bed, so there was only a few minutes between milk and bed and so she still had the big sleepy warm milk feeling.
